Penn Treaty School is located in the historic Fishtown section of Philadelphia. The school, opened in 1927, is named after William Penn, who was an outstanding writer, leader and philosopher. He is credited with negotiating a peace treaty with the Indian chiefs of the Delaware, Susquehanna, and Shawnee tribes, a few blocks from where the school presently stands.
Penn Treaty School has undergone significant changes in its 96 year history. Today, Penn Treaty serves students grades 6 to 12 and has one of the most diverse school programs in the District. Student relationships are constantly improving and school spirit is at an all-time high. Penn Treaty is preparing to be one of the most successful neighborhood schools in the district.
